31-year-old Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega reveals the hidden reason why he wants to quit play for Man City
Following a discussion with his wife prior to the arrival of their second child, Stefan Ortega is expected to resolve his future with Manchester City this summer.
The 31-year-old is currently enjoying his longest run in the City squad, having started three consecutive games since replacing the injured Ederson in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield. However, the goalkeeper acknowledges his future beyond the conclusion of this season is uncertain, with only one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad.Ortega has established himself in Manchester and his first child attends a nursery in the vicinity. However, his second child is expected to be born in August to his wife Sabina, and the German stated that a family decision will be made regarding whether to continue with City or consider relocating, with a possible return to Germany.
“In the end, it’s not just my decision; my wife is also there, and we’re anticipating our second child,” Ortega said following the Blues’ 4-1 victory over Aston Villa.
“Since I am no longer in my early twenties, I must strategically determine my summer activities.” It’s not as though I must exert effort to convince the club to sell me; rather, it’s a matter of observation. Because there are worse locations than this one, I am at ease.
“My family and I are extremely content here.” My spouse initially encountered some difficulty, but I believe that is typical when traveling to a foreign country. Everyone is currently pleased.
“Being in this society is a pleasure, as it is among the largest of its kind worldwide. I remain committed to my initial objective and strive daily to achieve this goal; it has been my constant ambition.
City would suffer a substantial loss in Ortega, who has performed admirably as their No. 2 goalkeeper since joining from Arminia Bielefeld in 2022. He has appeared in a total of 27 games for the club in his two seasons, and during a crucial stretch of this season, he has established himself as a capable substitute for Ederson.
Having spent the majority of his career in the German second tier, he had only two seasons in the Bundesliga for Bielefeld prior to joining City. However, his performances for City have alerted clubs to his quality, and as Ederson continues his recovery from a thigh injury, he may have more opportunities to impress before the end of the season.
Ortega has had a strong run for the team in recent matches, including crucial Premier League contests against Liverpool and Arsenal; he characterized this stretch as “enjoyable.”
“Started at Liverpool to play at Anfield and this game was nice,” according to him. “Following that, Arsenal on Sunday in the FA Cup, and now Aston Villa, another formidable opponent.” Try to be present, carry out my duties, and be grateful for each game you receive.
“I now have four consecutive big games.” “I believe I performed admirably; I demonstrated that everyone can have faith in me.”
Ortega continues to aspire to be City’s regular starting goalkeeper, a formidable task that he acknowledges is difficult in light of Ederson’s performance.
“The decision must be made by the manager.” “All I can do is demonstrate my abilities in training and on the field; I have no idea what will transpire in the end,” he explained. “But it’s all about the team and if I have to go back on the bench it will be hard for me, yes, but we have to support everyone.”
