41 years-old Luton Town coach Rob Edwards break silence and made brutally but true admission after Liverpool win (4-1) vs Luton
According to Rob Edwards, Luton Town made Liverpool “angry” after Jurgen Klopp’s team scored four goals in the second half to win 4-1 at Anfield.
Luton’s Chiedozie Ogbene got the first goal against a Reds team that was hurt, as Klopp’s Premier League leaders struggled to level the score in a tense first half on Wednesday night.
In the second half, Liverpool played much better and tied the game with a goal from Virgil van Dijk. However, goals from Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliott put Liverpool four points ahead of Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
“All we did was make them mad,” Edwards admitted. “Overall, I thought the first half was great. I thought the second half showed us Anfield, Liverpool, and their full-speed football.” It was amazing how they counter-pressed with football.
“A great way for us to learn what the best looks like in the end.” I know they were missing some players, but their play in the second half was the best I’ve seen. Although I thought we were great, they were better.
“Take a look at our group. Not many people will have been to Anfield in that way.” We hope that we can come back someday. That stuff is pretty much necessary to get better.
Edwards said, “We started out a little stronger, but then we got stronger and looked good. I thought they would start coming after us, and they did.” In the second half, Sambi had to make a move, which we hope is okay.
“We didn’t use that space behind them, so they suffocated us.” The boys persisted. Even near the end, we didn’t give up and accept loss. While I’m proud of my team, we lost tonight to a better one. It showed us what elite looks like.
“That’s great for Chie; we want our wide players to get into the box like that.” It’s great for him to score at the Kop after the trip he’s been on. In the second half, their real danger came from pressing back and not giving up. Giving up goals from set pieces and throw-ins is upsetting. We just had some bad plays, but I don’t think we looked like a bad team.
