Erik ten Hag was happy after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, but Roy Keane didn’t like the way the Dutchman talked about the game afterward.

Roy Keane made a joke that Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, might have “had a couple of glasses of wine” before giving a good interview after the Premier League game against Liverpool.

The game on Sunday afternoon was a draw for Ten Hag’s team. They could have won if Aaron Wan-Bissaka hadn’t been called for a hit on Harvey Elliott late in the game. Even though the game ended in a tie, Keane wasn’t impressed by the showing.

Liverpool missed the chance to get back to the top of the Premier League table, which could be bad for them. They’re now in second place, one point behind Manchester City, who won against Brighton on Saturday, and two points behind Arsenal.

It also didn’t help United, who are now 11 points behind fifth-place Aston Villa with seven games left, though they do have a game in hand.

“Listen, it’s clear he had a few glasses of wine after the game,” Keane said on Sky Sports after seeing Ten Hag’s chat with the media after the game. “He seemed really happy, and I respect him for that because he’s clearly seeing something I’m not seeing right now. I don’t know how strong that is.

“That’s not to say that the football club or these young players don’t have potential, but they’re a long way from being able to compete with Arsenal, Man City, and Liverpool.” As of right now, they are in a race with Aston Villa and Spurs for fourth and fifth place, and they are far behind those teams.

“I don’t understand his happiness, but maybe that’s just me being old and cranky.” He seems positive, but I didn’t see that positive performance. I saw two great goals from Man United and a team that stuck with it, which I commend. But if you look at the bigger picture, I’m not sitting here saying, “Man United is on their way back.”

Ten Hag praised his team’s toughness after they didn’t get a shot on goal in the first half. They were close enough to score twice, and on another day, those goals might have given them all three points.

“You saw Liverpool were dominating the game but we stayed in the game,” he noted. “We lost duels and battles when the stakes were high.” But then the toughness and quality, the way we play and how we set it up and how they played together while we had the ball and when we didn’t.

“They also had to be tough because we needed it in the first half, when we lost the important duels and got hammered.” Liverpool was mean to us. The young players were sometimes even scared, but in the second half, they stepped up, and you could see their confidence grow. They were sure we could win.
