£40 million The Newcastle United duo is expected to be sidelined until 2025 following an injury update at the training site. Eddie Howe has provided an update on the return timeframes for Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles in the wake of their respective ACL injuries.

In March, both athletes experienced significant injury setbacks; however, they have since resumed their individual training regimens as they progress through the latter stages of their recovery. In December, Botman was provided with an approximate return date; however,

Howe has now stated that it would be a “bonus” if the defender was back in contention by that time. Nine months will have passed for both athletes by the conclusion of December, which corresponds to the initial recovery timeframe established in March. The defensive tandem may need to exercise patience, as Newcastle were without Emil Krafth for 14 months following a comparable injury in 2022.

“They are experiencing varying phases of recovery,” Howe stated to The Gazette. “Jamaal will be some time after Sven.” Sven is making satisfactory progress, and we anticipate that he will be able to commence moderate training with us within the next few weeks. However, there is still a significant transition from training to playing, and we must therefore remain patient with him. View Geordie Journos on Shots: Has Eddie Howe resolved NUFC’s issue?

“It would be a bonus if we could see him before the end of the year, but it is likely that we will need to wait until January.” According to Howe, Botman would resume training “within the next few weeks.” However, on Friday, the defender himself posted an image of himself at the training ground on Instagram, accompanied by the caption, “First training today, great feeling to be back out there with the team.

” Newcastle attempted to exceed their transfer record and acquire Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace by recruiting defensive reinforcements during the summer.

However, their efforts were unsuccessful. Although there is still interest in Guehi, the club may shift their focus to a higher position on the pitch in anticipation of Botman’s anticipated return in the near future. However,

Lascelles, the captain of the club, will be out of contract at the conclusion of the season as a result of the club’s decision to invoke a one-year extension during the 2023-24 campaign.
