“But in the end” – The reason why Manchester City players was furious at referee Simon Hooper amid Jack Grealish goal denied vs Tottenham Hotspur
Referee Simon Hooper made Manchester City very angry when he didn’t let Jack Grealish score a dramatic winner against Tottenham in the 94th minute.
A crazy game at the Etihad might have been settled by a questionable call by the referee in the 94th minute, when Emerson Royal fouled City’s Erling Haaland in the middle of the field.
Hooper had the ball first, and the Norwegian striker sent a pass over Spurs’ high line to an onside Grealish, who was free to score.
Hooper, on the other hand, lost focus for a moment and blew his whistle for the first foul on Haaland.
Naturally, this made the City players and fans very angry, because they thought they should have been given a clear chance to score.
As angry City fans yelled at Hooper, commentator Peter Drury said, “Jack Grealish was completely through on goal, staring Vicario in the eyes…. and then the whistle went.”
“It’s another diamond, a treat, a gem of a Premier League football match,” he said in a low voice. There was no giving in, just happiness and a lot of expressing, understanding, and appreciating each other.
“But in the end, all in a row. It ends with boos.
At the end of the game, Haaland walked off the field in a rage, clearly angry about the decision.
Co-host Gary Neville said this about Haaland: “He has lost his head.” I think some of that anger comes from having a pretty bad game in front of goal, though.
“In four games, City has given up nine goals.” At the end, that will be a bigger worry than the mistake the ref made when Grealish was through.
Son Heung-min scored the first goal for Spurs in the sixth minute. Three minutes later, an own goal tied the game.
Then Phil Foden put City back ahead, but Giovani Lo Celso tied the game in the second half.
And Grealish thought he had scored the game-winner in the 80th minute, but Dejan Kulusevski scored a dramatic equalizer 10 minutes later to give Ange Postecoglou’s team a valuable point.
