Last night, Celtic defender Anthony Ralston served as a timely reminder of his capabilities as Scotland emerged victorious over Croatia in order to preserve their Nations League aspirations.

Although the 26-year-old is firmly behind Alistair Johnston in the Parkhead pecking order, he is undoubtedly capable of performing at the international level when contacted by Steve Clarke.

Ralston’s performance against Croatia was commendable, earning him favourable evaluations from both media and commentators on a night when Scotland was obligated to emerge victorious.

Ben Doak was singled out by the Celtic man for his impact on the proceedings following the match. The two players formed a strong partnership on the right-hand side against superior opposition.

In the wake of Scotland’s inaugural competitive victory in 2024, Leanne Crichton has pinpointed the moment at Hampden when the situation improved with Ralston’s assistance.

Anthony Ralston’s enhancement in the second half of the match against Croatia Chrichton, on The Scottish Football Podcast, emphasised that

Ralston’s capacity to “stay underneath” the ball in the second half enabled his right-sided companion to more effectively confront Croatia’s backline as Scotland’s pressure ultimately broke the deadlock. She declared,

“That concludes the matter.” I believe that the primary responsibilities of a wide player in any team are to create opportunities, assist, and score. In the first half, I simply felt that it was too effortless for him to transfer the ball back to the other team, as a result of the manner in which the team provided him with the ball.Insufficient quality, inadequate quality.

I previously mentioned that Ralston was attempting to underlap and was encountering the same channel as Ben Doak. Tony Ralston maintained his position beneath the ball for the majority of the second half.

“Ben Doak was provided with the ball, and nine times out of ten, he was required to overcome a guard, a guard deal, in order to reach the byline.

This forced Croatia to defend, created opportunities, and generated energy in the stadium and among the fans, which then spilt over onto the pitch and inspired the players.

” Anthony Ralston is available to assist Celtic as required. Although Johnston remains Celtic’s favoured full-back, Ralston is prepared to serve as a substitute whenever necessary.

It is self-evident that the Lennoxtown graduate is unrestrained on the pitch. He compensates for any deficiencies in technical proficiency with determination and tenacity.

Hopefully, he will be able to contribute to his national team’s successful conclusion of the Nations League campaign against Poland on Monday before returning to Celtic with a sense of conviction.
