Callum Wilson has broken his silence regarding Newcastle United’s future following Eddie Howe’s revelation regarding his contract.
Eddie Howe’s admission regarding his contract has prompted Callum Wilson to break his reticence regarding Newcastle United’s future.
Callum Wilson made his first appearance of the season as a second-half substitute in Newcastle United’s loss to West Ham on Monday night.
Wilson had been compelled to observe from the sidelines following a back injury sustained during the preseason.
However, he finally returned to action against the Hammers, a long-awaited event. Eddie Howe’s decision to introduce him alongside Jacob Murphy was a gamble, as his team was trailing 2-0 as a result of goals from
Tomas Soucek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Nevertheless, the 32-year-old was unable to significantly influence the game during his 22-minute stint on the field, with the exception of a potential penalty that was disallowed by Craig Pawson.
However, Wilson’s return to full fitness is a significant advantage for Howe, who hopes to capitalise on the six months of injury-free play to impress, score goals, and secure a new contract with the club.
Wilson’s current contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season. However, he has acknowledged that he is not apprehensive about his future at the club, despite the possibility of departing on a free transfer.
“You can only concentrate on the present situation. The initial step was to ensure that you were physically fit. Subsequently, you can consolidate this, maintain your fitness, and score your goals. The club’s progress is ultimately determined by these factors.
As a striker, you score goals and obtain longevity, correct?” Howe disclosed that Wilson may be eligible for a new contract prior to their match against the Hammers. When questioned about the possibility, Howe responded, “Certainly there is.”
“Callum possesses exceptional qualities.” “I am aware that footballers have short memories, but I have been impressed by Callum’s performance on the pitch since my arrival. He has been exceptional.”
