Kalvin Phillips provides an unvarnished assessment of the experience of winning the Treble at Manchester City.

The 2022/23 campaign was Manchester City’s most successful season under Pep Guardiola.

In particular, this season was the most successful in the club’s history, as City secured the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

Upon reflection, several members of the squad that achieved the Blues’ three main trophies during that season have since left the club.

Kalvin Phillips is one of those players, having joined Ipswich Town on a season-long loan agreement during the previous summer transfer window.

The midfielder has disclosed his personal experiences during his tenure with Pep Guardiola’s team, particularly his feelings regarding his participation in the Treble-winning squad, as this marks his second loan stint away from the Etihad Stadium.

Kalvin Phillips contemplates the City campaign that secured the Treble.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Phillips provided a candid assessment of his emotional attachment to the Manchester club’s Treble victory, reflecting on his time at City.

He stated, “It is truly remarkable to be a member of a Treble-winning team; I have won the league on two separate occasions.” However, the experience is not the same when one is not as actively involved as they would like to be.

“It was an extraordinary experience and moment; however, I believe that it would have been even more special if I had had the opportunity to play more.” Phillips disclosed the reason for his departure from City on loan.

Phillips, who joined City from Leeds United in a £45m deal during the 2022 summer transfer window, only began four games during the Treble-winning season, which was his first campaign at the club.

He stated, “I believe the primary reason I relocated to Ipswich was to resume playing football.”

“And I think, yeah, I’m just going to get back to enjoying my football, because I obviously loved it at City.” They are the most exceptional team in the globe. Amazing individuals and athletes are present.

“It is somewhat draining to be aware that you will not be able to play on the weekend, yet you are still required to train to the best of your ability and, ideally, continue to strive for greater success each day.”

“It is extremely difficult to anticipate the weekend, and I have reached a realisation that I am unlikely to play much due to the players in front of me, which I cannot really contest.”
