MLS addresses the Celtic to Atlanta transfer issue in response to the Kyogo ‘error’.
MLS responds to the Celtic to Atlanta transfer for Kyogo ‘error’Major League Soccer has issued an apology for the erroneous publication of an article that identified Celtic striker Kyogo as the latest addition to Atlanta United’s roster.
The American league set off a frenzy of speculation among fans when the error was discovered on social media. In December, the Japanese striker was speculated to be one of two potential Manchester City signings in the summer, and he was also linked with a transfer to the United States.
However, Pep Guardiola’s interest in the player did not materialise. The MLS has now taken the initiative to provide a detailed explanation of the events that led to the rapidly viral web post. The explanation includes an employee error and an apology to Furuhashi and the two clubs that were involved.
A spokesperson for the league stated to Sky Sports News, “An article was mistakenly published on the Major League Soccer website that identified the incorrect player as having signed with an MLS club.” “The article was promptly removed and rectified.” MLS extends its heartfelt condolences to the affected parties.
