The Brazilian received his eighth caution of the Premier League season during Newcastle’s 4-1 loss to AFC Bournemouth at St. James’ Park last Saturday, and he is now merely two cautions away from incurring a two-match suspension. Newcastle’s opening 19 matches of the Premier League season – missing last month’s trip to Ipswich Town.Having accumulated three bookings since his return from suspension, Joelinton must now navigate the next ten Premier League matches without receiving an additional two yellow cards; failure to do so will result in a two-match suspension.

 

 

 

 

The 28-year-old player received a two-match suspension during the 2022-23 season after accumulating ten cautions; however, he evaded a similar sanction in the subsequent season due to injury.Joelinton received his eighth yellow card during the match against Bournemouth due to a challenge and an ensuing altercation with Justin Kluivert.

 

 

 

According to the regulations of the Premier League, any player who receives a total of 10 cautions within the first 32 matches of the season is required to serve a suspension of two matches.Sandro Tonali has four bookings and would have to be cautioned six times in Newcastle’s next 10 league games in order to be banned.

 

 

 

Bruno Guimarães and Lewis Hall have each received three cautions, whereas Lloyd Kelly, Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, Nick Pope, and Joe Willock have each accumulated two cautions. Sven Botman, Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak, Kieran Trippier, and Callum Wilson each possess one yellow card.

 

 

 

 

Southampton midfielder Flynn Downes currently holds the record for the highest number of infractions among all Premier League players this season, with a total of nine cautions. Should he receive a booking during the match against Newcastle on Saturday (scheduled for a 3 PM kick-off), he will become the inaugural player to incur a two-match suspension due to yellow card accumulation.
