The statement that referee Steven McLean made to Brendan Rodgers regarding the disallowed Celtic goal against Hibs

Brendan Rodgers is displeased with the fact that Celtic were unable to secure a crucial equaliser against Hibs on Saturday. Josh Campbell’s first-half double propelled Hibs to a 2-1 victory in Edinburgh, resulting in Celtic’s second Premiership loss of the season.

The Hoops were the exact antithesis of their stellar performance against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, as they appeared sluggish and fatigued in Leith. In the second period, Celtic maintained possession and had Hibs confined to their own half, resulting in an improvement.

The deficit was reduced by Daizen Maeda, who believed that he had completed his brace and Celtic’s recovery by firing in to make it 2-2. Referee McLean’s explanation for the disallowed goal is disclosed by Rodgers. The goal was awarded by on-field referee Steven McLean; however,

VAR disallowed it due to their determination that the ball was out of play before Alistair Johnston crossed for Maeda. Rodgers accused VAR Alan Muir of second-guessing his decision, as the TV camera perspectives provided by Premier Sports did not appear to provide conclusive evidence of the entire ball being over the line.

VAR asserts that the goal decision was factually overturned; however, Rodgers is not persuaded. At his post-match press conference, he disclosed to reporters the information that McLean provided him regarding the controversy following the game.

Rodgers stated, “He (McLean) simply stated that it was a VAR decision, that it was factually incorrect, after the fact.” If you do not possess the genuine images, which will be intriguing from the 18-yard line?

“That is my stance; I am hesitant to be overly critical until an actual piece of evidence is presented that definitively demonstrates the ball was out.” Taylor failed to impress during the initial Hibs goal and was also issued a caution for a late challenge. Meanwhile, striker Idah failed to contribute to the attack and was responsible for Campbell’s headed effort.

After the match, Rodgers spoke with reporters and refrained from criticising the three half-time substitutes due to their contributions throughout the season. The Northern Irishman elaborated, “Once more, those players have scored extremely significant goals for me this season and have executed their duties exceptionally well.”
