Newcastle United’s transfer plans are to be “hijacked” by Manchester United following the disclosure of Eddie Howe and the “agreed” claims.

Ruben Amorim’s team is presently ranked 14th in the Premier League table, and recent reports indicate that they are in the process of preparing for the summer transfer window. It is improbable that European football will be played at Old Trafford in the upcoming season, unless the Red Devils are able to secure the Europa League title this season.

TeamTalk have identified Trafford as a potential recruit this summer as they commence the preparation for the first summer window under Amorim. The Burnley player has been in exceptional form this season and has recently witnessed a league record 12-game sequence of clean sheets come to an end.

The former Manchester City academy star has participated in 34 of Burnley’s 35 league games to date, maintaining 24 clean sheets and conceding only ten times. There are reports that suggest the 22-year-old could be signed as a backup for Andre Onana at Old Trafford, with the intention of ultimately replacing the Cameroon international as the first-choice player in the future.

Trafford, who has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent times, is expected to face stiff competition for his signature should Manchester United make a move for him this summer. He starred at the U21 European Championships in 2023 and saved a penalty in the final against Spain as England triumphed.

Trafford has been associated with a potential transfer to St James’ Park for an extended period of time, and speculation regarding the Magpies’ interest in the custodian surfaced last summer. Trafford had recently finished his inaugural season as a Premier League custodian, during which he conceded 62 goals in 28 appearances for the Clarets, which were relegated under the leadership of Vincent Kompany. United’s head coach responded,

“I am not convinced that we are in that situation with any player.” “The summer window is still a considerable distance away, and we have not yet initiated those discussions.” Newcastle United’s focus must remain on the twelve critical games they have left this season, and any acquisition of Trafford will not occur until the summer window has opened.

Howe is aware that his team must be in top form to qualify for European football next season, as they have 11 Premier League matches and a Carabao Cup final to play. He is confronted with a variety of selection dilemmas between now and the end of the campaign, with the choice of custodian being one of the most significant.
