BREAKING: Mark Carney has officially sworn in as the new Prime minister of Canada

On Friday, Mark Carney was inaugurated in as the new prime minister of Canada, assuming responsibility for a nation that has been roiled by a deterioration in US relations since President Donald Trump’s re-election.

Carney was overwhelmingly supported by the governing Liberal Party to succeed Justin Trudeau, in the hopes that his experience leading two central banks through historic crises would provide Canadians with reassurance as they confront a potentially devastating trade war.

Carney, who will turn 60 on Sunday, is a political novice who has never been elected to a public office. However, his campaign abilities will be put to the test in the coming weeks, as Canada is expected to hold a general election.

The vote is anticipated to be dominated by the concerns posed by Trump.

The United States president has attempted to intimidate Canada by implementing extensive import tariffs and threatening additional levies. He has also asserted that the country is not “viable” on its own and should be annexed by Washington.

Carney, who was inaugurated as Canada’s 24th prime minister during a ceremony in Ottawa, has characterised Trump’s posture as the most consequential obstacle Canada has encountered in a generation.

After winning the Liberal Party leadership contest on Sunday, Carney stated, “Everything in my life has prepared me for this moment.”

He was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs prior to his appointment as the governor of the Bank of Canada during the 2008-2009 financial crisis. He also served as the leader of the Bank of England during the turmoil that surrounded the Brexit vote.

He has endeavoured to portray himself as a leader who is specifically designed to guide a nation through a trade conflict with the United States, which was once Canada’s closest ally but is now a country that Carney claims Canada can “no longer trust.”

Melanie Joly, the Foreign Minister of Canada, stated at a Group of Seven meeting in Quebec that Carney would introduce a “new dynamic” to US diplomacy.
