Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has officially been named the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week
Following his two remarkable free kicks against Real Madrid, Declan Rice has been awarded the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week title.
When he curled the dead ball past Thibaut Courtois in the 58th minute, our number 41 put us ahead in north London. He then scored his second goal with a postage-stamp finish from a distance.
Our midfielder was the first player in Champions League history to score two direct free-kick goals in a knockout stage match, and it was only the fifth time in total that a player had scored more than one in the same game. This achievement earned him a place in an exclusive club that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Hakim Ziyech, Neymar, and Rivaldo..
In our most recent three Champions League matches at home, he has scored four goals, bringing his total for the campaign to seven, which is identical to the production of the previous season.
Declan was the recipient of the award, surpassing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Paris Saint-Germain, Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona, and Alessandro Bastoni of Bayern Munich on the basis of fan votes.
Rice, Jurrien Timber, and William Saliba were all named in the Champions League Team of the Week following their starring performances against Madrid, but the accolades do not finish there.
