John Hartson is displeased with the information he has received regarding the referee and VAR officials for Celtic’s match against Rangers.
There are few contests in the world that can surpass the Glasgow derby match between Celtic and Rangers. On Sunday, the 2024/25 season will conclude with the final match between two of the most enduring and animose rivals in the world of football.
Celtic are the reigning Scottish champions, having eventually secured the title with a resounding victory over Dundee United in their most recent match. However, those who will be present at Ibrox and those who will be viewing from afar will be preoccupied with the events that transpire during the intense 90 minutes of football, particularly in light of Celtic’s recent losses to Rangers.
If the on-field referee and those VAR officials believe they will be granted an easy ride with each decision they make, they should reconsider their assumptions. John Hartson expresses his opinion on the officials for the Rangers vs Celtic match at Ibrox. There is always a controversial ruling lurking around the corner, and it is not uncommon for one to occur during this game.
However, Hartson expressed his dissatisfaction with the noise that surrounds the officials, which may be indicative of “concerns” regarding the individual who will be in command, in an interview with Go Radio. The former striker further stated that officials should not be discussed or questioned prior to the Rangers and Celtic match. “John, who would you prefer to serve as the referee for the Glasgow Derby?”
inquired the presenter, Paul Cooney. “I am not concerned with the identity; I will disclose it to you.” John appears to be unconcerned. Hartson replied, “To be frank, I am surprised that we are even discussing this.” All referees make errors. I have been quite critical of referees, particularly VAR, when it first arrived in our division and made so many errors.
“However, I am sincere.” I am not preoccupied with the identity of the referees during the weekend. You can only pray that they will make the best possible effort. They make the significant decisions correctly. They are assisted to the best of their ability by VAR. “In my opinion, there is no reason for us to question referees.”
“I have lost faith in them,” and similar statements Nick Walsh will be responsible for overseeing this all-action derby. Walsh previously oversaw Celtic’s 3-0 victory over Dundee United in February and Motherwell’s victory over Rangers in March. Andrew Dallas is the individual responsible for VAR, as Andrew McWilliam will be on AVAR duty.
