BREAKING: New Orleans Saints Makes shocking move to Sign Undrafted Rookie Quarterback After Derek Carr Retirement, that must fans never liked

Coach Kellen Moore of the New Orleans Saints has previously disclosed that the team will be conducting a quarterback competition for the starting position this offseason in light of Derek Carr’s retirement. Additionally, the team has introduced a fourth quarterback to the equation.

According to Saints correspondent Mike Triplett, the Saints signed undrafted quarterback Hunter Dekkers from Iowa Western and Iowa State on Monday, contingent upon the completion of a physical. This past week, Dekkers participated in the Saints’ rookie minicamp in an effort to secure a position.

After forfeiting his remaining NCAA eligibility in 2021 for wagering on an Iowa State game, Dekkers concluded his collegiate career at Iowa Western Community College. He sustained a permanent loss of eligibility as a result of his wagering on his own team. Presently, he is endeavoring to establish himself in the National Football League.

Dekkers will be a part of the quarterback room this offseason, alongside longstanding backup Jake Haener, this year’s second-round pick Tyler Shough, and last year’s fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler. It is probable that Dekkers will be designated as a reserve to one of the Saints’ other quarterbacks if he secures a position on the roster.

Shough stated over the weekend that the Saints appear to be providing all of their quarterback candidates with an equitable opportunity to contend for the starting position. Two newcomers and a second-year player will now be in competition, indicating a significant lack of experience in the quarterback room. They will have the opportunity to develop during their training this offseason and during the 2025 season.
