Additionally, the Lions have signed an additional athlete who participated in the rookie minicamp on a tryout basis over the weekend. Defensive lineman Keith Cooper has been signed by Detroit following a successful trial.
Cooper, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive end, competed at Tulane and Houston during his college career. He was later undrafted after concluding his tenure with the Cougars. He was predominantly a defensive end for Houston, recording 3.5 sacks in his final year. During the rookie minicamp session on Friday, it was evident that he possesses a crush-the-can style of EDGE that the Lions prefer.
Based on the rookie minicamp notebook,
Keith Cooper, a Houston-born defensive end who is currently undergoing a tryout, appears to have the potential to excel on an NFL roster, even if not in Detroit. It was a significant challenge for the tackles and TEs to attempt to block him.
UDFA offensive lineman Leif Fautanu was released by the Lions in order to accommodate Cooper.
