Kevin De Bruyne has received numerous messages following his final encounter in front of the Manchester City fans.
On Tuesday evening at the Etihad Stadium, the Belgian assisted Manchester City in defeating Bournemouth 3-1, thereby securing their eligibility for the UEFA Champions League on the final day. Prior to his departure, he delivered a speech.
Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, and Joe Hart, all Manchester City icons, appeared on the screen to send farewell to Kevin De Bruyne. Additionally, Riyad Mahrez, whom Pep Guardiola later poked fun at, was also seen.
Riyad Mahrez’s response to Pep Guardiola’s description of his team as a “disaster”
The Algerian international chose to don a LA Lakers vest while communicating with the Belgian international.
Guardiola did not endorse the ensemble, humorously referring to it as a “disaster” when discussing the tributes De Bruyne had received.
The Spaniard expressed his gratitude, stating, “It was a pleasure to see Vinny, Leroy (Sane), Raheem (Sterling), the disaster outfit from Riyad, and all the players, Pablo (Zabaleta), Joe Hart—everyone was present.” It was exceedingly pleasant.
Mahrez, whom Jack Grealish admires, at least recognised the humour in the situation. He responded to the incident on X (previously known as Twitter) by sending a series of laughing emojis and then included the phrase “this guy” in reference to Guardiola.
Riyad Mahrez’s current status at Al-Ahli
The 34-year-old is demonstrating exceptional performance in Saudi Arabia.
This season, Mahrez, who was on the brink of joining Arsenal, played a pivotal role in propelling Al-Ahli to the AFC Champions League Elite. In 44 appearances, he scored 17 goals and provided 19 assists, a remarkable performance.
The Al-Ahli No.7 also scored 12 and assisted 14 in 33 games last term, indicating that he has acclimatised well to Saudi Arabia.
The Algerian continues to torment defenders, as he did during his five-year tenure at Manchester City, despite his age of 34.
