Swedish footballer Viktor Gyokeres uncle makes shocking transfer claim over Arsenal transfer target

The uncle of Viktor Gyokeres, Chris Gyokeres, has made an unexpected transfer claim on his nephew, despite the fact that Arsenal and Manchester United have shown interest in him.

It has been reported by his uncle that the striker Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon may decline high-profile offers from Arsenal and Manchester United this summer.

After a great first season in which he scored 43 goals, the Swedish forward has had an incredible season in Portugal, where he has scored 53 goals in 51 games. This is a continuation of his extraordinary first performance. It has been rumoured that both Arsenal and United are interested in bringing him to England as a result of his recent form, which has put him squarely on the radar of prominent Premier League clubs.

In spite of the significant interest, Chris Gyokeres, Gyokeres’ uncle, is of the opinion that the 26-year-old may decide to continue playing for Sporting, where he has established himself as a fan favourite. During the festivities for the club’s championship, he gave an interview to the Portuguese publication Record, in which he showed his appreciation for both the team and the country.

It’s amazing, he added, and I couldn’t be happier about it. It is the same spirit, the same people, and the same vibe that we experienced when we were here the previous year. Without a doubt, outstanding! I am helpless to speak!

“Yesterday at dinner, we decided that he has to stay,” he said in response to a question on whether or not the striker could continue to play for Sporting United for another season. Indeed, we are of the same opinion. If you look at it, we hope that… We are in awe of it. All of it is incredible: the nation, the people, and the sporting environment. The Lions, as well. We absolutely adore it!

It has been stated that Sporting are willing to consider bids for the prolific striker, and both Arsenal and United have identified him as a key target in advance of the summer transfer season. Mikel Arteta believes that Gyokeres is a more cost-effective alternative to Alexander Isak, who could be substantially more expensive than the sixty million pounds that Sporting is reportedly requesting for him or his services.

However, if Gyokeres decides to remain in his current position, both Premier League clubs may now be required to investigate other potential candidates.

Following their victory in the Primeira Liga, Sporting is now looking to complete a domestic double by competing in the cup final against Benfica this coming weekend. Meanwhile, Arsenal will finish their 2024–25 Premier League season away against Southampton, which will be demoted to the lower division.
