Breaking news: Elon Musk officially resigns from U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration

Following the conclusion of his 130-day tenure as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk has officially resigned from his position as a Special Government Employee in the Trump administration.

Following public criticism of President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a major tax and spending package, Musk resigned from his position. Musk stated that the bill undermines the purpose of the Department of Energy and the Environment (DOGE) to minimize waste in government and increases the debt in the federal government.

During his tenure at DOGE, Musk had the intention of reducing the amount of money spent by the federal government by $2 trillion; however, he later revised his goal to reduce it to $150 billion.

On the other hand, skeptics challenge the accuracy of these figures, pointing out that the cuts may have cost taxpayers $135 billion in 2025. DOGE claims to have saved $160 billion, but critics question the accuracy of these figures.

During Musk’s tenure, there were numerous internal tensions and legal challenges, including lawsuits alleging that the operations of DOGE violated several laws, including those pertaining to privacy and the constitution.

Musk has expressed his gratitude to President Trump and his belief in the ongoing goal of the DOGE cryptocurrency, despite his decision to stand aside.

He intends to restore his attention to his business endeavors, which include Tesla, SpaceX, and his artificial intelligence startup, xAI.
