Newcastle United is considering acquiring Brighton forward Joao Pedro this summer; however, the two clubs continue to hold divergent opinions regarding the Brazilian.
St. James’ Park’s interest in Pedro is not a recent development; Newcastle United was on the brink of acquiring him three years ago, but ultimately decided against the move as it reached its conclusion. Pedro was compelled to remain at Vicarage Road for an additional year before relocating to Brighton a year later, as they elected to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.
Additionally, they have reportedly returned to Pedro’s doorstep in their pursuit of attacking reinforcements this summer. Nevertheless, Pedro’s signature this summer is expected to require a fee that is nearly as high as the club’s record from three years ago.
Brighton, on the other hand, are not under any financial obligation to sell the 23-year-old and, as they have demonstrated in previous windows, will be extremely aggressive negotiators. The Telegraph reports that Newcastle United are not willing to pay the Seagulls’ reported demand of nearly £60 million for the forward this summer.
After being open for ten days at the beginning of June, the summer window has been temporarily closed to enable clubs that are participating in the Club World Cup this summer to bolster their squads in preparation for the tournament. Newcastle United will be permitted to acquire and enroll players beginning on Monday, June 16, and the window will remain open until 7 p.m. on Monday, September 1.
The position of Joao Pedro regarding Newcastle United’s transfer
The report also indicates that Newcastle have received “some encouragement” that Pedro would be amenable to a move to St James’ Park this summer, despite the fact that the Magpies and Seagulls continue to hold differing opinions on Pedro. If a transfer is accomplished this summer, Pedro would be joining his compatriots Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes on Tyneside.

Newcastle United, on the other hand, is eager to enhance Eddie Howe’s attacking capabilities by acquiring a right-winger and a striker, which are among their top priorities. The club’s primary striker will be Alexander Isak; however, a proficient deputy who can replace the Swedish international is required to oversee his game time in the Premier League and Europe.
Pedro’s adaptability allows him to assist Isak in the front line if necessary and would not relocate to the northeast to serve as a mere backup to Isak. The club disclosed last week that they were in discussions with the former Bournemouth man about potentially extending his stay at the club, but an agreement over an extension has yet to be reached. Callum Wilson, Isak’s current deputy, is out of contract at the end of this month.
Newcastle United will likely play over 50 games in all competitions this season, with a minimum guaranteed eight extra games due to their participation in the Champions League. They will want Isak, their talisman, to be not only fit for the majority of those games, but also relaxed enough to perform at the highest level.
