After Flamengo’s rebuff, Enzo Maresca has recently sent a message to Chelsea fans regarding Andrey Santos. Maresca has caused some Chelsea supporters to become frustrated with his decision not to use Santos in either of the Blues’ first two Club World Cup games.
Santos was an unused substitute during Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Flamengo on Friday evening. Additionally, the midfielder was absent from his team’s opening match against Los Angeles FC in the Club World Cup on Monday. It appears that Moises Caicedo is prepared to play alongside Santos after divulging that the two are already close.
However, it appears that Maresca has other plans. Nevertheless, he has assured Chelsea supporters that they will have the chance to observe Santos in action in the future. Maresca expressed his sentiments regarding his midfield selection in the aftermath of the Blues’ loss to Flamengo, stating,
“There are always areas in which you can improve, regardless of whether you win or lose.” We endeavoured to select the appropriate individuals for the game plan. Reece was selected, and he was satisfactory for a period of 60 minutes, as were the other candidates. Andrey and Dario [Essugo] will have opportunities in the future.
James has been employed in an inappropriate capacity on numerous occasions. James was also utilised in midfield by Maresca during the previous season, and in England’s most recent 1-0 victory over Andorra, Thomas Tuchel deployed him at left-back. The English media was not amenable to Tuchel’s
decision to start James at left-back, and a significant number of Chelsea supporters have also not been pleased with their captain’s decision to play in midfield instead of SantoFlamengo, the rivals of the 21-year-old’s former club Vasco da Gama. Consequently, it was a game that James was particularly prepared for. Santos stated to ESPN Brasil prior to the match, ”
The pressure is immense.” I am under a significant amount of pressure regarding the outcome, as I receive a significant number of messages from Vasco fans on Instagram and am also subjected to pressure from my peers and father. However, I remain optimistic that all will go well.
The final result was that Flamengo dominated Chelsea, and they deserved to lose. Given this, it is possible that they could have benefited from Santos. It is evident that Santos is well-versed in Brazilian football and is a midfielder who is capable of preventing attacks. According to FBref, the Brazil international recorded the most tackles in Ligue 1 last season, accounting for 110 in total.
