Martin O’Neill’s Celtic team’s harsh response to the controversial remarks of a Rangers commentator Rangers issued a few shouts during Celtic’s trophy celebration in May, for those who were unaware. Celtic secured a point against St Mirren, and James Forrest scored a record-breaking goal.
Subsequently, Celtic celebrated the 2024/25 Premiership title. Nevertheless, Rangers, the second-placed club in the Premiership, were able to secure a 2-2 draw against Hibernian in Edinburgh for Barry Ferguson’s penultimate game as manager. Nicholas Raskin believed that he had scored for the Gers, and replays indicated that the ball had crossed the line.
However, the VAR did not intervene and reverse the decision in Scotland, as there is no goal-line technology. This has resulted in Rangers being incensed, including their former player John Brown, whose comments have landed him in hot water. Celtic legend Martin O’Neill responded to the situation in the most effective manner possible.
Martin O’Neill’s Celtic response and John Brown’s Rangers controversy Rangers have been fined £3k by the SFA for Brown’s assertion that the game against Hibernian was “corrupt,” as reported on talkSPORT. In addition, the former defender declared that it was the “worst decision I have seen in all my years in football,” as his fellow commentator attempted to minimise the incident by stating, ”
I am not sure we can quite actually say that.” O’Neill addressed that controversy on talkSPORT, and while he acknowledged that Brown’s allegations of corruption were inaccurate, he also noted that Rangers’ goal would have only narrowed the 17-point distance to Celtic by a few more points.Brown asserted in May on the Rangers’ official TV channel, “I would say it’s corrupt.” Before his colleague, the Rangers commentator, responded,
“I am uncertain if we can actually make that claim.” Brown then continued, “Well, I am stating it – that is a disgrace.” It is an embarrassment; it is the most egregious decision I have witnessed in my entire football career. O’Neill responded, “The club is unable to disassociate itself from the assertion that “it was his comments and it has nothing to do with the club.”
He should not be uttering it, as it is a club channel. When presented with the opportunity to repent, he reiterated his stance. Celtic and Rangers are “equally paranoid.” The pressure and scrutiny that players, managers, and board members face make it difficult to play for either Glasgow club. O’Neill endured that for an extended period, including entering the pressure cooker during the Rangers’ reign of terror.
However, he ultimately reversed the situation, winning the Triple Crown. However, the renowned coach believes that Celtic and Rangers are prone to being “as paranoid” as one another. “Listen, I have observed it from the other side,” O’Neill continued. “I have witnessed it alongside us, as we are Celtic.” We are equally apprehensive as the Rangers.
