Liverpool Issues a Statement Following the Tragic Death of Diogo Jota

Liverpool has issued an official statement following the tragic departure of Diogo Jota. In the early hours of Thursday morning, the 28-year-old Portugal international passed away after being involved in a fatal car accident with his 26-year-old sibling,

 

 


 

Andre, who was also a player for Penafiel. In the summer of 2020, Jota transferred from Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Reds. He subsequently appeared in 182 matches and secured two Premier League titles. During that period, the 28-year-old scored 65 goals and provided 26 assists, garnering him a chant that was widely adored by the Kop and helped him become a favourite among many young supporters.

 

 

 

 

Just two weeks after the Portuguese man married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, in Porto, the devastating news of Jota’s death was announced. To commemorate the union of their love, the couple posted photographs of their wedding ceremony, which took place in front of the altar and included their three children. The caption of the image read, “June 22, 2025. Yes to forever.”

 

 

 

 

The Reds’ statement was significantly more private in order to show respect for those who were impacted by the news, while the rest of the football world gathered for a moment to contemplate the life of Jota, both on and off the pitch.
