Following a successful five-year tenure, Callum Wilson leaves Newcastle United as a free agent.

After a successful five-year stay with Newcastle United, Callum Wilson is leaving as a free agent. Callum Wilson has said that he is leaving Newcastle United after five years. He will be able to sign with any team he wants. He paid £20 million to join the club from Bournemouth in September 2020.

Newcastle had a hard time staying in the Premier League during his first few seasons there. A big change, though, happened in 2021 when a group led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund took over. When Eddie Howe took over as manager, things changed for Newcastle. When he was in charge, the team made a comeback.

Wilson had a great season when they made it to the Champions League in 2022–23. In that year, he made 18 goals in the Premier League and played in the EFL Cup final, but Manchester United beat them 2-0. Wilson was on the team that beat Liverpool 2-0 in the same competition two years later, ending Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a big domestic trophy.

Wilson played for Newcastle for 130 games and scored 49 goals. Even though he did a lot for the team, they couldn’t come to an agreement on new terms before his contract ended last week.Wilson thanked everyone in a goodbye message on X: “To all you Magpies… After a crazy few years in the Toon, it’s time to say goodbye. “Thank you for everything.”

He loved wearing the famous number nine shirt and scoring at the Gallowgate End, which he called “special.” Wilson is allegedly being scouted by several MLS teams as well as Leeds United, who are getting ready to play in the Premier League again. During the 2024–25 season, he played in 18 league games as Alexander Isak’s backup and didn’t score.

Even so, Newcastle still finished in fifth place and earned another spot in the Champions League. When Wilson first started playing for Newcastle, he scored at least eight goals every season for four years. But because of injuries, he could only make 23 games a season. The busiest season for him was 2020–21, when he played more than 2,000 minutes (2,085) in the Premier League.
