Tijjani Reijnders appears to have been the most notable of the Premier League’s summer acquisitions thus far, following his exceptional performance for Manchester City in their 4-0 victory over Wolves.
With his astonishingly quick feet and a delectable lobbed pass into Rico Lewis’ path, the Dutchman was a force to be reckoned with, as he assisted Pep Guardiola’s team in breaking down the hosts’ low blocks, which in turn set up Erling Haaland’s opening goal.
Reijnders acknowledged that he is currently studying Ilkay Gundogan’s game, which was particularly evident in his initial goal for City in the league. His late dash into the box and subsequent finish were reminiscent of the German at his most impressive.
The 27-year-old was also instrumental in Manchester City’s third goal, as he initiated the play by combining with Oscar Bobb, then forayed into the right flank and passed the ball into Haaland’s path to score.
Tijjani Reijnders was exceptional on his Premier League debut.
After the Wolves vs Man City match, Alan Shearer stated that Tijjani Reijnders’ movement is “difficult” to halt.
Pep Guardiola appears to have confidence in Reijnders, as evidenced by his placement of him in a diversity of positions, such as a right-sided attacking midfielder, a double pivot, and just behind Haaland.
The former AC Milan supremo appeared unfazed and instead seized the game by the throat.
Alan Shearer exclaimed on BBC Match of the Day that Reijnders’ performance against Wolves was “absolutely sensational!” It was nearly the ideal midfield performance, and it was particularly impressive for his debut in the league. He played an extraordinary game. He was notably impressive when running with and without the ball, regardless of whether he was reading the game.
Shearer asserted that Reijnders’ adept movement into the box renders him a challenging opponent, stating, “He governed the game at his own pace.” He is cognizant of his surroundings. A player who is perpetually on the move and adept at timing their runs is an outright nightmare to play against. The opposition finds it exceedingly challenging.
The Newcastle United legend continued, “The manner in which he ran with and without the ball was challenging to keep up with, and he continued to run relentlessly, leaving them with no response.”
Tijjani Reijnders achieves the same feat as Sergio Aguero during the Wolves – Man City match.
Reijnders must be overjoyed to receive such glowing acclaim from Alan Shearer; nevertheless, the Manchester City number four’s heroics against Wolves were worthy of recognition.
Pep Guardiola also praised Reijnders’ performance against Wolves, and, similar to the pundit, he also identified the midfielder’s intelligent mobility.
The Zwolle-born goalscorer became the second City player in history to score a goal and provide an assist on his Premier League debut, following Sergio Aguero in 2011. This information was reported by Opta Johan.
It is fair to say that Reijnders is in esteemed company, as Aguero is perhaps the greatest player to have ever played for Manchester City.
The Dutch international has the potential to become a City legend if he emulates the Argentine.
