NUFC £15m talented defender set for Newcastle United transfer departure as Isak saga persist

Matt Targett is reportedly poised to join a Championship side on-loan this summer, according to Newcastle United transfer news.
Matt Targett, a defender for Newcastle United, is reportedly on the verge of signing a loan agreement with Championship club Middlesbrough. The former Aston Villa player was not included in Eddie Howe’s matchday squad at Villa Park last weekend and has fallen down the pecking order in recent seasons on Tyneside.

After initially impressing during a half-season loan from the Villains in 2022, the Magpies converted the loan into a permanent transfer in anticipation of the 2022/23 campaign for a fee of £15 million. Nevertheless, Targett was compelled to miss their match against Brighton due to illness, which struck just two games into the season.

Dan Burn was the preferred left-back that day and remained there for the remainder of the campaign as Eddie Howe established a rock-solid defense with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, and Burn ahead of Nick Pope in goal. Several ailments would ensue for Targett, including a hamstring injury sustained in the opening minutes of their Carabao Cup victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in November 2023.

He would be unable to participate in the majority of the campaign as a result of that injury. He was unable to regain his position in Howe’s first-team prior to the emergence of Lewis Hall, which rendered the implausible outcome nearly impossible.

Matt Targett is prepared to relocate to Middlesbrough.
Targett will be on loan at Middlesbrough this season, where he will be assisting Rob Edwards in their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League, as reported by TalkSport. Boro have not participated in the top-flight since 2017, but they have begun the season with a strong performance under the former Luton Town manager, having won both of their opening games.

They are currently ranked second in the Championship table and will be traveling to Norwich City’s Carrow Road stadium this weekend in an effort to secure their third victory in three games. Boro have recently acquired Sverre Nypan, a Manchester City wonderkid, and Edwards has acknowledged that they are still “working hard” to add additional players to their squad before the transfer window concludes. “We’re still working hard,” Edwards stated.

“There are a few additional areas that require further exploration.”

“I am extremely pleased with the building, as I have repeatedly stated.” The players are exerting themselves and providing us with their all, but it is evident that there are a few areas in which we need to improve.

“We are all working diligently in those areas, and to be fair, we still have a small amount of time to ensure that we are prepared and prepared for the window to close.”

The summer transfer window will conclude at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 1. Newcastle United has a significant amount of work to do in the transfer market before the deadline, with their primary focus being on the development of their attacking options.

Liverpool continues to be linked with Alexander Isak, and the Magpies are in need of at least one striker to bolster their squad in the wake of Callum Wilson’s departure earlier this summer. Brentford striker Yoane Wissa and Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen are still being linked with a transfer to Tyneside.
