Yoane Wissa’s début will be postponed by Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe, as Nick Woltemade is expected to be available for the match against Wolves.
Newcastle United hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off), with some injury concerns to address.
Eddie Howe disclosed that he would be without the services of new acquisitions Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey for the match following the international break.
While on international duty with DR Congo, Wissa sustained a knee injury. He is currently scheduled to consult with a specialist. Howe has confirmed that the £55 million summer signing will not be available this weekend, and there is no indication of when Wissa may return.
Additionally, Ramsey’s ankle injury sustained at Leeds United necessitated his absence for at least one month, according to the Magpies’ manager. This would result in the £39 million summer acquisition being absent from the next seven matches in all competitions, which include Wolves, Barcelona, AFC Bournemouth, Bradford, Arsenal, Union SG, and Nottingham Forest.

When asked whether Wissa could make his debut against Wolves, Howe responded, “Unfortunately, he will not be eligible for this game.” Yesterday, I encountered him for the first time, and he is currently experiencing the consequences. Consequently, he will be unavailable.
“He will be required to undergo tests and consult with a specialist; therefore, we will have to wait and observe.”
Howe added, “Jacob Ramsey is the only other injury concern we have; he will miss the game.” He is expected to be sidelined until the subsequent international break as a result of a confrontation against Leeds that resulted in swelling of his ankle.
Eddie Howe on Nick Woltemade
Woltemade’s début against Wolves is now possible due to Wissa’s injury; however, will it be from the outset?
The sole alternative striker available to Howe prior to the match is William Osula, who was the starter at the front during the previous match against Leeds.
Howe stated on Woltemade, “He’s doing well, he’s trained well, and I’ve been extremely pleased with his appearance in the past few days.”
“A significant change for him, and a significant opportunity for him as well. I believe he has a great nature and character, and he is very composed. He has immediately assimilated into our training and has not appeared out of place. He has demonstrated his qualities, so I am really pleased with how he has acclimatized.”
Regarding Woltemade’s potential for a starting role, Howe stated, “I believe we always approach it on an individual basis. There is no predetermined formula for new players; it is contingent upon your requirements and their fitness and form, as you mentioned. I have no reservations about playing any of the new players at this time.”
“Nevertheless, I believe that we require a degree of comprehension, which I am confident the Newcastle supporters will provide, as they have consistently demonstrated a high level of consideration for each circumstance that a player encounters in my time here.”
“It is exceedingly challenging to enter this league and immediately feel at ease and at home.” Now, certain players have achieved this, and we are confident that Nick will be one of them who appears to be at ease with the pace change, as well as the other obstacles he will encounter in the Premier League.
“However, it is important to recall that Alex [Isak] did not participate in every game at the outset.” He was alternated with Callum, and he was gentled into the role, which I believe significantly contributed to his long-term success. Therefore, each participant is unique. We will await Nick’s actions, but we are committed to providing him with the necessary support at all times.
