Celtic F.C. manager Brendan Rodgers explains the main reason why he benched Kieran Tierney for Celtic’s win over Kilmarnock (1-2)

Celtic made a few adjustments to their starting lineup for the match against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Celtic secured a victory over Kilmarnock by virtue of a stoppage-time penalty scored by Kelechi Iheanacho. The team included debutants, some new players, and academy players.

Kieran Tierney was one of the names Brendan Rodgers placed on the substitute, as Marcelo Saracchi, a fellow summer signing, replaced him at left-back.

Rodgers provided an explanation for his decision not to start his customary left-back at Rugby Park prior to the commencement of the game.

The reason Kieran Tierney was on the substitutes for Celtic’s match against Kilmarnock is that he, along with Anthony Ralston, withdrew from international duty with Scotland during the September break.

It appears that Tierney’s concerns were not severe; however, Rodgers declined to include him in the starting lineup due to the fact that he had “only trained for the last couple of days” prior to the Killie match.

In an interview with Celtic TV, Rodgers expressed his confidence in making the decision, as he had the option of selecting a “experienced” player such as Saracchi. This decision proved to be successful.

Rodgers stated, “Kieran, you are not quite prepared.” “He has only recently resumed training, and he has been absent from the international break. Consequently, he is not yet fully prepared.”

Celtic were in quest of a spark to ignite another game that was on the brink of a 0-0 score before Daizen Maeda opened the scoring in the second half.

In that moment, Saracchi, who had been loaned from Boca Juniors, delivered a delectable early cross that was expertly headed home by Maeda.

It was the most memorable moment of the match, and Celtic’s backup fullback certainly appeared to be a natural fit for the renowned green and white colors.
