Daizen Maeda returned from the international break with a flourish, scoring for Celtic in their victory over Kilmarnock.
The Hoops took the lead at Rugby Park in the 57th minute when the top scorer from the previous season scored a header.
It was his first goal since Maeda disclosed his desire to depart Celtic, and while his dedication is unquestionable, it is evident that he has been lagging behind.
On Sunday, he appeared more like himself, and David Friel was impressed by a particular aspect of the 27-year-old’s goal.
David Friel admired Daizen Maeda’s agility in the Celtic goal.
Ross McCormack believes that Kelechi Iheanacho can assist Maeda by enabling him to relocate to his preferred wide positions, despite the fact that his goal was scored from the middle.
Friel praised the superb movement required to reach the end of Marcelo Saracchi’s cross, describing it as one of the most impressive pieces of play he has ever witnessed.
“I am critical of his decision to play as a centre forward; I do not believe that is his natural position. However, his movement for the goal was the most impressive I have observed,” he stated during the Go Radio Football Show.
“He evaded the defender and then returned across him to secure a magnificent header from an exceptional pass.” He denied the goalkeeper any opportunity.
It is highly probable that the 27-year-old will depart Celtic Park at the conclusion of this season, and he will be greeted with warm regards from all.
Until that time, Hoops fans can continue to appreciate his tenacious work ethic and, with any luck, create additional fond memories.
Daizen Maeda will dedicate his entire career to his final season. Brendan Rodgers has been aware of Maeda’s desire to leave since February, but it would have been completely unknown to the public unless it was disclosed.
