William Osula fired a double as Newcastle United eased past Bradford City 4-1 in the Carabao Cup at St James’ Park, with Bruno Guimaraes quick to praise the striker for rediscovering his scoring touch.
Making just his fourth start of 2025, Osula struck twice alongside Joelinton to secure the Magpies’ third-round win. Despite limited opportunities since arriving on Tyneside, the forward now has five goals in four starts this year – a return that has proved vital for Eddie Howe’s side, especially with new signing Yoane Wissa sidelined through injury.
Remarkably, Osula was almost sold on deadline day, with a £30m switch to Eintracht Frankfurt collapsing at the last minute, while talks with Aston Villa also fell through due to UEFA squad cost restrictions.
Reflecting on his display, Howe highlighted more than just the goals:
“It wasn’t only the finishing – his link-up, pressing, and hold-up play were all excellent. He showed he can also operate out wide, which gives us another option. Will is ambitious, works hard in training, and he’s proving he deserves his chance.”
Former Denmark U21 teammate Tochi Chukwuani also weighed in from afar, urging Newcastle to give Osula more opportunities: “Let the boy play.”
