Brendan Rodgers provides update on Celtic contract talks and outlines January transfer plans
Brendan Rodgers has once again addressed questions about his future at Celtic.
The manager returned to Parkhead in June 2023 on a three-year deal set to expire next summer. While discussions were held with CEO Michael Nicholson and majority shareholder Dermot Desmond during the summer, no agreement has been reached on an extension.
Rodgers has consistently made it clear he intends to see out his current contract and has no plans to walk away as he did in 2019. However, speaking at his pre-Hibs press conference on Friday, the Hoops boss confirmed there had been no progress.
Asked if there was an update, Rodgers simply said: “There is nothing as of yet, no.”
Rodgers on January transfer window
The Celtic boss was also pressed on recruitment plans after a frustrating summer window that saw the club scramble on deadline day and fail to secure a striker to replace Adam Idah, who joined Swansea City. Attempts to negotiate cut-price deals for several targets ultimately fell through.
Looking ahead to January, Rodgers hopes lessons have been learned.
“Yeah, I really hope so,” he admitted. “At this moment, the scouting team knows exactly what we’re after and what we missed out on in the summer. A lot of work goes into that. It’s a shorter window, so you need to be prepared, organised, and ready to get business done as early as possible. Hopefully we can close that out better in January.”
