Detroit Lions Sign Veteran CB Tre Flowers After Secondary Injuries

The Detroit Lions have bolstered their secondary with the addition of veteran cornerback Tre Flowers, who joins the team’s practice squad following recent injury setbacks.

Flowers, a fifth-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2018 NFL Draft, brings significant experience to Detroit. Across seven seasons, he has featured in 95 games (44 starts), tallying 287 tackles, 22 passes defended, and 4 interceptions. His career also includes stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Indianapolis Colts.

The Lions turned to Flowers after injuries left their secondary thin, with D.J. Reed sidelined by a hamstring issue and Terrion Arnold’s availability uncertain. Head coach Dan Campbell hinted earlier this week that reinforcements were likely, and Flowers’ versatility makes him a strong candidate to step in quickly if promoted from the practice squad.

Detroit also added linebacker Ty Summers on Tuesday, providing further depth in the middle of the defense. Summers previously impressed during the Lions’ 2023 preseason campaign.

Impact on Detroit’s Defense
While not the flashiest of signings, Flowers’ experience and steady presence align well with Campbell’s “next man up” mentality. With close to 100 NFL appearances, the 29-year-old offers immediate stability and could see game action sooner rather than later if the Lions’ injury concerns persist.
