The main reason why Scottish former footballer Michael Stewart was furious angry with referee appointed for Falkirk vs Rangers

Rangers will aim to secure back-to-back Scottish Premiership victories when they travel to Falkirk on Sunday.

The 2-1 win over Livingston did little to ease supporter frustration, with pressure mounting on Russell Martin despite chairman Andrew Cavenagh continuing to back him. The former Southampton boss needs a consistent run of results if he is to hold onto the job.

Falkirk, meanwhile, sit 11th in the table and have found life tough since stepping up to the Premiership.
Referee confirmed for Falkirk vs Rangers
Sunday’s clash will be overseen by Matthew MacDermid, with Steven McLean on VAR duty. MacDermid has officiated 11 matches across competitions this season, dishing out 40 yellow cards and a single red.

Rangers have history with MacDermid. In February 2024, he failed to award a clear penalty in their 3-0 win over St Johnstone, only overturning the decision after VAR intervention. James Tavernier converted from the spot, but pundit Michael Stewart was stunned it wasn’t given immediately.

MacDermid was also criticised after Rangers’ November 2024 meeting with Hearts, when he blew the whistle before VAR could review a late penalty shout for a Kieran Dowell handball.

With controversy fresh in the memory, Martin will be hoping for a straightforward afternoon as his side look to gather momentum in the league.
