James McFadden, Ally McCoist and Robbie Neilson gave their honest verdict over Rangers F.C. 2-1 defeat vs. Sk Sturm Graz

James McFadden (ex-Scotland forward, on Sportsound):

He described Rangers’ first-half display as disappointing, saying they were responsible for their own downfall by conceding early.

He felt the team improved significantly after the break, but questioned why changes in formation only came once the game was already slipping away.

McFadden added that Rangers often look vulnerable in possession, and the goals they concede are far too soft, with most being avoidable — making it frustrating for supporters to watch.

Ally McCoist (ex-Rangers striker, on TNT Sports):
McCoist stressed that Rangers’ defensive performance deserves strong criticism, both on an individual and collective level.

Robbie Neilson (former Hearts manager, on BBC podcast):

Neilson suggested the team is entering a spiral, with growing negativity towards manager Russell Martin starting to impact the players.

He argued the only way to change the mood is by stringing together a series of wins, though he doubts Rangers have the squad to deliver six to eight consecutive victories. While Martin has tried to absorb the pressure himself, Neilson feels it is now weighing heavily on the players too, as the situation has become severe.

Alan Hutton (ex-Rangers full-back, on TNT Sports):
Hutton insisted that Rangers cannot continue performing this way, describing the situation as unprecedented for the club.

He criticised both the poor manner of the goals being conceded and the lack of fluidity in their attacking play.
