Celtic possess enough quality across their squad to fend off any title challenge from Rangers or Hearts this season.
Despite remaining unbeaten in domestic competition, Brendan Rodgers’ side currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership behind a high-flying Hearts team, while Rangers — without a permanent manager — languish in mid-table. Although Celtic have not been at their best, Hearts have been in exceptional form so far.
However, former Celtic midfielder Pat McGinlay has issued a warning to both Hearts and Rangers, insisting that one man in particular gives the Hoops the edge. Speaking to the *Sunday Mail*, McGinlay said:
> “I fancy them to go on and win the league again this season. Rodgers is top drawer, isn’t he? You don’t get much better than Brendan. They’ve got the players too — it’s just that some of the new lads are still settling in.”
McGinlay acknowledged Celtic’s injury concerns and dip in form but believes that once key players return, the title race will swing decisively in their favour.
> “Benjamin Nygren looks a real player, but remember Jota is still out, Tierney is working his way back to full fitness, and Alistair Johnston is close to returning. Once those players are firing again alongside the new signings, it’ll be a completely different story.
> “If they start putting wins together and strengthen in January, Celtic will push on and take the title.”
### Upcoming Clashes with Hearts and Rangers
Celtic have yet to meet Hearts this season. The Edinburgh side have already defeated Rangers at Ibrox and will fancy their chances when they host Rodgers’ men at Tynecastle on **October 26**, in what should be a thrilling encounter.
As for the Glasgow rivalry, Celtic and Rangers played out a goalless draw at Ibrox earlier in the campaign. The next meeting between the two giants is set for **January 3** at Celtic Park, where Rodgers will aim to deliver another statement victory and pile further misery on the Ibrox side.
