Middlesbrough’s post-match celebrations may have gone a little overboard following their 2-1 win over Ipswich Town — at least that’s what Delano Burgzorg’s Instagram post suggested.
After a tense clash on Friday night, Boro extended their impressive start to the season, moving to the top of the Championship table after 10 matches. It was a perfect response for Rob Edwards’ side, who bounced back strongly from their defeat to Portsmouth before the international break.
The game had its share of drama — including a missed penalty from Ipswich’s George Hirst — but Middlesbrough’s spirited and unified performance, capped by a debut goal for Morgan Whittaker, showed just how much belief Edwards has instilled in his squad.
The players celebrated their victory on social media, but none grabbed attention quite like Burgzorg. In a humorous Instagram post, he wrote:
“After a few difficult weeks back on the pitch!! I know tough times never last. Ps: we need a new TV innit.”
The post included a photo of a smashed TV inside the dressing room, sparking plenty of laughter among teammates. Tommy Conway jokingly replied,
“Top stuff my guy, still fined tho,”
to which Burgzorg fired back,
“@tommyconway_ impossible ask @luke_ayling2 he knows about it!!”
Other players such as Callum Brittain, Matt Targett, and Hayden Hackney also joined in to praise the Dutch winger for his performance. While Conway’s comment hinted that Burgzorg could face a light-hearted fine for the broken television, the playful exchange reflected the strong bond within the squad — a key factor in their consistency so far this season.
Friday’s display may have been a turning point for Burgzorg, who has struggled for regular minutes this campaign. Taken off in the 87th minute to warm applause from the away fans, he proved his worth as a creative force in attack. After making 42 league appearances last season, scoring five goals and providing two assists, he has mostly featured as a substitute this term — but his energetic showing against Ipswich could help reignite his campaign.
With an upcoming trip to face struggling Sheffield Wednesday, Burgzorg now has the perfect chance to build on his momentum and push for a regular starting place under Edwards. Having reasserted himself with a strong performance and a memorable post-match moment, the Dutchman will be eager to make sure his name remains firmly in the conversation at the Riverside.
