Reason why Peter Grant shouted at James Tavernier after Rangers teammates claim

Peter Grant has urged James Tavernier to take a hard look at himself before pointing fingers at his Rangers teammates. The Ibrox skipper openly blasted his side’s performance after their humiliating 3-0 Europa League defeat to Brann, admitting he was “raging” and labelling the display “disgraceful.”

However, the 33-year-old captain was partly responsible for the opening goal and struggled throughout the match, drawing criticism for his own performance.

Celtic legend Grant, who has often defended Tavernier in the past, insisted this was not the moment for the Rangers captain to speak out. Speaking on Go Radio, he said:

“You’ll know I usually try to back James Tavernier, but last night was the night he should’ve kept quiet. He was poor — with the ball at his feet, with his hands, and his positioning for the first goal… deary me. Defensively, we talk about him all the time. The ball’s on the other side, and where is he?

Grant also pointed out that John Souttar should have taken more responsibility in marshalling the defence but stressed that Tavernier, as captain, needed to show accountability rather than publicly criticise others.

“Before you come out and have a go at your teammates, look in the big mirror first, son,” Grant concluded.
