Barry Bannan, the captain of Sheffield Wednesday, has disclosed that he would be amenable to conversing with former Owls proprietor Dejphon Chansiri if he contacted him subsequent to his departure from Hillsborough.
Wednesday and the company through which he owned the stadium were placed into administration last Friday by Chansiri, following months of financial and off-field turmoil.
This decision marked the conclusion of his tempestuous decade-long tenure at the club. In the final months of Chansiri’s tenure, players and staff frequently received their wages late due to his financial difficulties. Bannan, the club’s captain, engaged in numerous phone calls with the Thai businessman and long-serving defender Liam Palmer to address the situation.
He also had to address inquiries from concerned team members and staff. Bannan, despite being the subject of interest from other clubs, signed a new contract with the Owls this summer on a significantly reduced salary. In addition to setting a positive example off the field, the 35-year-old has also been a standout player for his team on the field, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 14 appearances thus far this season.
