Davis Alexander is gearing up for the biggest start of his young career as he prepares to lead the Montreal Alouettes against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Saturday’s East Semi-Final. The confident quarterback isn’t shying away from the challenge — or from the fiery words coming out of the Winnipeg camp.
Earlier in the week, Blue Bombers defensive end Willie Jefferson told the team’s website that Winnipeg needed to embrace a “villain” mentality, saying they had to be willing to “kick their door in and take everything off their table.”
When asked about Jefferson’s comments during Friday’s media availability, Alexander didn’t hesitate to respond.
“We see everything they say,” he admitted. “We don’t pay much attention to it, but when I get home, I look at that stuff. Bring Willie over, bring Winnipeg over. He says, ‘Come on down to Winnipeg?’ Well, come on down to Montreal — let’s see what happens.”
The Gig Harbor, Washington native has enjoyed an impressive regular season, completing 72.5% of his passes for 2,024 yards, 10 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. Although he hasn’t started a playoff game since high school, Alexander insists he’s ready to rise to the moment.
“I hope they come after me — I’m built for it,” he told TSN. “If they don’t believe me, they’ll find out. We’ve been really good offensively when I’ve been out there this season. But the regular season doesn’t mean anything now — nobody remembers the ‘regular season guy.’ You’ve got to be that guy in the playoffs. You’ve got to be a killer and find a way to win, no matter what it takes.”
Alexander’s confident words set the stage for a fiery playoff showdown — and a test of will against Jefferson’s battle-hardened Bombers.
