West Ham injury update ahead of Newcastle United clash:
The Hammers will be without Oliver Scarles, Niclas Füllkrug, and Konstantinos Mavropanos for Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Newcastle United.
Manager Nuno Espírito Santo confirmed that young full-back Oliver Scarles has undergone successful surgery on a fractured collarbone sustained in West Ham’s previous match. “Oliver went into surgery yesterday, and it went well, but he’ll be out for a while,” Nuno said. “He won’t completely stop training, as he’ll still be doing some conditioning work.”
Performance director Richard Collinge added: “The operation went smoothly, and Ollie will focus on his recovery and rehabilitation at Rush Green, aiming to return to action in December.”
The injury comes as West Ham sit second-bottom of the Premier League table, having suffered three consecutive defeats against Arsenal, Brentford, and Leeds United. Nuno’s side have picked up just one point from four games since his arrival, and preparations for the visit of Newcastle have been further disrupted by these absences.
In attack, Nuno also confirmed that Niclas Füllkrug remains sidelined. The German striker, who famously scored against Newcastle for Borussia Dortmund in 2023, has struggled with fitness since moving to England. “Niclas is still out,” Nuno said. “He’s started light work on the grass but isn’t training fully with the squad yet. We’re hopeful his recovery won’t take too long.”
His absence could open the door for Callum Wilson to start against his former club. The 33-year-old joined West Ham as a free agent this summer and featured against Leeds last week after limited recent appearances.
Defensively, Konstantinos Mavropanos will also miss Sunday’s fixture due to a hamstring problem. “He’s begun his fitness programme and had his first session back on the grass,” Nuno confirmed. “It’ll be a couple more weeks before he’s fully ready.”
As for Newcastle United, they’ll be without Yoane Wissa and Tino Livramento, both sidelined with knee injuries, though Lewis Hall could return after recovering from a hamstring issue.
