Craig Bellamy speaks out amid reports of Celtic return interest

Craig Bellamy Addresses Celtic Links and Reaffirms Commitment to Wales

Wales manager Craig Bellamy has firmly ruled himself out of contention for the Celtic managerial job, insisting his full focus remains on leading his country to the 2026 World Cup.

The former striker, who enjoyed a memorable loan spell with Celtic during his playing days, has been among the names linked with the Parkhead vacancy following Brendan Rodgers’ departure. However, Bellamy has now made it clear that he is not interested in returning to Glasgow.

“I couldn’t want for anything more than what I have right now, and that’s where it lies for me,” Bellamy said ahead of the international break. “Anything else is not on my radar and it won’t be on my radar.

I can understand the links because I played there, and I’m coaching now, so it makes sense. But I love what I’m doing at this present moment. I’m completely focused on what’s to come — the playoffs in March — and that’s all I’m thinking about.”

When asked whether his stance might change if Celtic were prepared to wait, Bellamy reiterated his commitment to Wales, pointing to the four-year contract he signed when taking charge.

“I’ve got a number of years left on my deal. I know how football works — maybe people could have enough of me sooner rather than later — but as long as I’m wanted and can contribute to Wales, that’s what motivates me,” he said.
“I try to live day by day and appreciate what I have. This period has been one of the best of my life, and hopefully it continues for a long time.”

Wales remain focused on securing qualification for the World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico, with crucial games ahead against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia before the playoffs in March.

FAW chief executive Noel Mooney also dismissed any speculation of Bellamy leaving, praising the 45-year-old’s impact on the national team.

“Craig’s done a terrific job with Cymru,” Mooney said. “He’s built an identity and a style of play that’s really excited people.

He’s only a year into a four-year contract, and our focus is entirely on qualifying for the World Cup. When you do well, you’ll naturally get linked with big jobs — and Celtic is a massive club — but Craig is fully committed to Wales.”

Mooney added that Bellamy has “captured the imagination” of Welsh football and remains a vital part of their “Together Stronger” campaign.

“We’re all united in the goal of reaching the World Cup — six points in November, onto the playoffs, and then the big stage next year,” he concluded.
