West Bromwich Albion delivers his full assessment over their match defeat against Charlton

West Bromwich Albion’s struggles deepened on Tuesday night as Ryan Mason’s side fell to a late defeat against Charlton Athletic at The Valley, adding further pressure on the under-fire manager.

Sonny Carey’s stoppage-time strike secured a 2-1 victory for the Addicks, leaving the Baggies with just two wins from their last ten Championship outings. The frustration among supporters had already been building after Saturday’s goalless draw with bottom-placed Sheffield Wednesday, and the loss in South London only intensified the scrutiny on Mason.

After a promising start to his tenure, Mason’s first significant dip in form has seen West Brom slip from the promotion-chasing pack led by Coventry City, Stoke City, and Middlesbrough, with three defeats in their last four matches dropping them into the bottom half of the table.

Speaking after the match, Mason admitted his disappointment, telling the club’s media:

“It’s another loss and it’s not good enough. The responsibility is on me. Right now, I’m not doing enough to get the best out of the players.”

The 34-year-old acknowledged the team’s effort but conceded that missed chances and late lapses cost them dearly:

“We had opportunities in both halves that we needed to take. To concede like that at the end reflects on me — and right now, it’s not good enough.”

His comments have split opinion among fans — some questioning whether Mason has what it takes to reverse the current slide, while others remain hopeful he can steady the ship in the coming weeks.
