Rob Edwards issues injury update on two players before Middlesbrough’s match against Birmingham City

Rob Edwards offers positive update on Dael Fry and Alan Browne ahead of Birmingham City clash

Middlesbrough return to action this weekend as they host Chris Davies’ Birmingham City at the Riverside Stadium. There’s hope for Boro fans, with both Dael Fry and Alan Browne pushing to be fit in time for the game.

The duo missed Tuesday’s dramatic 1-1 draw against Leicester City — though Browne was on the bench as an unused substitute. Boro looked set for defeat after Jordan Ayew’s penalty and Alfie Jones’ late red card, but Luke Ayling’s injury-time equaliser salvaged a point and lifted spirits heading into the Birmingham fixture.

With Jones now suspended, manager Rob Edwards is eager to have Fry back after he limped off in the Watford game last weekend.

“Dael and Brownie were the two I mentioned yesterday. We’ll see how they are for Saturday,” Edwards explained. “Brownie did a light fitness test this morning after set-piece work — he was OK, but I didn’t want to risk him tonight. The way the game went, it probably worked out for him too. Dael’s improved again today, so we brought him with us to see how he gets on.”
