Breaking: West Brom reach final decision on Ryan Mason’s future

West Brom Make Final Call on Ryan Mason’s Future Amid Growing Pressure

Ryan Mason is facing mounting pressure at West Bromwich Albion after a poor run of results that has left the Baggies sliding down the Championship table. Despite growing frustration among supporters, the club’s hierarchy have reportedly decided not to sack Mason and instead plan to give him more time to steady the ship.

West Brom’s latest setback came in a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic, with Sonny Carey netting a dramatic 95th-minute winner at The Valley. The result leaves Mason’s side with just two wins from their last ten league matches, dropping them to 15th in the table and five points adrift of the playoff places.

The 33-year-old was appointed in June after a lengthy managerial search that ended with the former Tottenham midfielder taking his first senior coaching role. Mason, who previously worked under Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou at Spurs, arrived at The Hawthorns with high hopes of rebuilding his reputation and guiding West Brom back to the Premier League.

However, the early promise of the campaign — which began with three wins and a draw in the opening four games — has faded, and questions are now being asked about whether Mason can handle the demands of Championship football.

According to Football Insider, club insiders insist there are no immediate plans to dismiss Mason, and the board remains determined not to make a “knee-jerk” decision about his future. The belief within the hierarchy is that, given his inexperience, Mason deserves the chance to learn and grow through a challenging period rather than being removed too quickly.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, a source close to the club explained:

“Results will ultimately dictate what happens, but there’s still patience from West Brom regarding Ryan Mason. I don’t expect any knee-jerk reaction or talk of sacking him right now. They started the season really well, but things haven’t gone to plan recently, and this is the first real test of his managerial career.”

The source added that while the current position is concerning, panic hasn’t yet set in at The Hawthorns:

“They’re sitting 15th, five points off the playoffs. The Championship is such a difficult league, and they’ll be hoping to get back on track soon. Oxford United up next is a big game, then Coventry and Birmingham after the international break — it doesn’t get easier, but they’re backing him to respond.”

Mason, who was encouraged to take the West Brom job by former teammate Harry Kane, is said to be working hard behind the scenes to turn things around. The board remains confident that his philosophy and long-term vision align with the club’s goals, even if short-term results have dipped.

Still, patience has its limits. The upcoming fixture against Oxford United is being viewed as a crucial moment in Mason’s early managerial journey — another defeat could see pressure mount significantly, both from fans and within the boardroom.

The speculation around Mason’s position comes amid a period of instability across the Championship, with several clubs already changing managers this season. Southampton recently parted ways with Will Still, while Watford and Sheffield United have both opted to make early managerial changes in hopes of reviving their campaigns.

For now, though, West Brom’s leadership is standing firm — placing its trust in Mason to navigate the storm and prove he’s capable of steering the club back toward playoff contention.
