Rangers handed January boost as defensive powerhouse signals openness to Ibrox move

Rangers are reportedly eyeing a January swoop for Genk’s powerhouse defender Mujaid Sadick, with insiders claiming the 25-year-old Spaniard is a “realistic option” to strengthen Danny Rohl’s backline.

The 6ft 1in defender, who can also play at right-back, impressed Ibrox scouts with his commanding performance during Genk’s 1-0 Europa League win over Rangers in September. Born in Spain but eligible for Ghana and Nigeria, Sadick is said to be “open to the move” and views Scottish football as the perfect next step in his career.

Rangers are aware it won’t be a cheap deal — Genk reportedly want around £6 million (€6.8m / $8m) for their defensive rock, who remains under contract until 2028 after joining from Deportivo La Coruña in 2021.

Danny Rohl, who has guided the team to an unbeaten domestic run since taking charge, is eager to add depth and experience as he shifts toward a five-at-the-back setup. Sadick is believed to be one of three potential January additions, alongside midfield and attacking reinforcements.

One insider told reporters:

“Danny’s vision is clear — quality, depth, and leadership. Sadick fits the profile perfectly: strong, technical, and ready for Scottish football.”
