Rangers have once again called on the Scottish FA for clarification after the Key Match Incident (KMI) panel concluded that Auston Trusty should have been sent off during last weekend’s League Cup loss to Celtic.
The Ibrox club, who already held talks with the governing body earlier this week, are now seeking further discussions focused on “accountability and consistency” following the panel’s 2–1 verdict.
The panel, composed of former referees, ruled that Trusty’s first-half collision with Jack Butland qualified as violent conduct — despite both referee Nick Walsh and VAR opting for a yellow card at the time. Celtic went on to win 3–1, securing their place in the final.
Many Celtic fans view Rangers’ renewed complaints as another attempt to deflect from the result, especially as several key moments in the match went in their favour. The KMI panel also supported a debatable penalty against Anthony Ralston while overlooking what appeared to be a foul on Reo Hatate in the Rangers box. Despite that, the noise has centred on Trusty’s incident rather than the wider officiating balance.
For Celtic, the outcome changes nothing — the right calls were made on the pitch, and the better side advanced.
