Liverpool star Andy Robertson addresses future amid Celtic transfer links
Andy Robertson has confirmed he has yet to open contract talks with Liverpool but insists he remains “relaxed” about his future, despite speculation linking him with a move to Celtic.
The 31-year-old left-back has entered the final year of his current deal at Anfield, having joined the Reds from Hull City in 2017 for just £8 million. Reports suggest that Robertson — who will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs from January — could depart Liverpool on a free transfer next summer.
Atletico Madrid were reportedly keen on signing him during the last transfer window, but the Scotland captain opted to stay and has since reclaimed his place in Jürgen Klopp’s starting lineup. While a switch to Celtic as early as January has been mooted, a short-term contract extension with Liverpool also remains a possibility.
Reflecting on his situation, Robertson said:
“I think last season everyone got tired of talking about Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but for me, the relationship between me and the club has been fantastic. They’ve done everything for me and my family, and I’d like to think I’ve repaid that since signing from Hull for £8 million.
“Whatever happens will happen behind closed doors. I’m relaxed about it. If this is my last year, then so be it — if not, great. I had a stressful summer with some big decisions to make, but now I just want to enjoy the next few months before things start taking over again.”
He added:
“That’s just what happens when you go into your final six months. I’m focused on football, happy to be back playing, and we’ll see what happens. I’m relaxed, and the club has been brilliant with me.”
