EFL 27-year-old left-back sustains a terrifying brain injury that could end his career

Fleetwood Town manager Pete Wild has detailed how what seemed like a harmless training-ground collision left defender Denver Hume with a concerning bleed on the brain.

The former Sunderland and Portsmouth full-back has spent the past month undergoing extensive tests, and while the situation shook both staff and players, doctors are optimistic about his recovery.

Wild told BBC Radio Lancashire that the incident was “so innocuous,” yet its effects were severe enough to leave the 27-year-old facing weeks of assessment.

Fortunately, Hume is now improving and has been cleared to begin very light exercise as part of a careful rehabilitation plan.

He will undergo further evaluation in January to determine the next steps in his recovery.

Hume, who signed a two-year deal with Fleetwood in the summer and had made 11 appearances before the injury, may still return later this season. However, Wild emphasized that the priority is Hume’s long-term health and well-being.
