Rangers player who earned £60k per start now looks set for a potential January exit

Glasgow Rangers are growing uneasy over Youssef Chermiti’s progress and may allow him to depart on loan in January, with interest emerging from another Europa League club.

The £8 million summer signing from Everton has struggled to settle at Ibrox, despite becoming one of the most expensive players in the club’s history. Earning £30,000 per week, Chermiti has found the net only once — scoring in Danny Rohl’s first Premiership win against Kilmarnock — far from the impact fans and staff had hoped for.

Expectations were initially high following glowing remarks from former manager Russell Martin, who praised Chermiti’s potential, attitude and physical attributes earlier in the season. Rangers signed him on a long-term deal until 2029, viewing him as a major investment for the future.

However, ten weeks into his spell in Scotland, Chermiti has earned around £300,000 in wages — averaging £60,000 for each game he has started — prompting concern within the club.

According to Ibrox News, Rangers are now considering loaning the striker out in the upcoming window. Braga, who are competing in the Europa League, are said to be keen, while teams in Turkey are also monitoring the situation.

If Chermiti is allowed to leave for the remainder of the campaign, Rohl would be left with Bojan Miovski and Danilo as his only recognised strikers. This could force 49ers Enterprises to bring in another forward in January, as Chermiti’s £8m transfer is currently looking like a questionable investment.
